Frequently
Asked Questions
Does
it work? Have you seen results?
Several scientific research studies (Collis, Plast Reconstr
Surg. 1999 Sep; Chang, Aesthetic Plast Surg. 1998 Mar-Apr)
showed that Endermologie treatment can: (1) cause a reduction in
limb circumference (width), and (2) improve the appearance of cellulite.
Additionally, there is anecdotal evidence of many women who have
experienced wonderful results from Endermologie.
How long does a session last? Do you just work on my problem
areas?
Sessions are 35 minutes in duration. Your problem areas are focused
on, but the arms, back and abdomen are usually done as well in order
to trigger a systemic effect of waste elimination.
How many sessions before I see results?
Usually people see changes at the sixth or seventh session. Years
of observation and data comparison revealed that in order to appreciate
optimal improvement in cellulite appearance, 14-18 Endermologie
sessions are necessary.
How long do the results last?
Results can last six months to a year, and sometimes longer. Because
cellulite is primarily influenced by fluctuating hormone levels,
some women may find it necessary to get maintenance, or "touch-up"
sessions. Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly will help
to prolong the results. Endermologie not only reduces the appearance
of cellulite, it has therapeutic benefits as well-- blood circulation
to the skin layers is increased 200 to 300% for
up to six hours after each session, which may have an anti-aging
effect on the skin.
How long do I have to wait after liposuction or a tummy
tuck to receive a treatment?
Before receiving a treatment, consult the surgeon who performed
your procedure. Usually you must wait until the compressive garments
come off.
Does this replace diet and exercise?
No. In fact, it is highly recommended that you modify your diet
and do cardiovascular exercise at least 3x/week while you undergo
ENDERMOLOGIE treatment. In most cases, this improves results. It
would also help to increase your water intake to assist the body
in eliminating trapped waste products.
Does this treatment work on men also?
Yes. For problem areas such as "love handles" and loose
pectoral tissues, results have been excellent.
What do I wear during treatment sessions?
Clients wear a bodysuit made up of a material similar to pantyhose.
This allows the Endermologie treatment head to glide more easily
over the skin and insures optimal hygiene. It is also worn for modesty
purposes.
Does the
machine tone the skin? Will I lose weight?
You will most likely notice an improvement in skin tone after using
the machine. Appearance of stretch marks and loose skin may be improved.
It is important to know that Endermologie is NOT a weight loss procedure;
however, many clients report being able to lose weight, especially
fat weight, more easily while using the machine than they ever could
before.
What is the difference between ENDERMOLOGIE and liposuction?
Can it be used instead of liposuction?
Endermologie, unlike liposuction, does not involve breaking through
the skin in any way. Some people try Endermologie first and then
choose to wait to receive liposuction. Some choose to receive both
as part of a dual treatment to their problem. Endermologie is being
used and studied by some of the most well-known practitioners of
liposuction in the world.
What sensations will I experience during the treatment?
Does it hurt?
The sensation feels like a gentle tug and lift of the skin and deeper
layers, rolling in different patterns over the body like a wave.
Most clients find it pleasant, but if you have sensitive skin, you
may feel slightly sore. The strength of the treatment can be individually
adjusted to your comfort level.
What will I feel afterwards?
Most clients report a feeling of relaxation and an increase in energy.
Since the lymph system is stimulated, it is recommended that you
drink four to six glasses of water every day during the duration
of your treatment in order to aid in elimination.
Are there any side effects?
Minor, temporary bruise marks may occur. Some people report an urge
to urinate about an hour after treatment. Many clients report feeling
refreshed and energetic after their sessions.
Can
I receive treatments if I am pregnant?
No correlation has been found between Endermologie and complications
in pregnancy. However, it is recommended that during pregnancy you
do NOT receive treatments.
Are there any other contraindications to Endermologie?
Total contraindications to Endermologie treatment include:
Pregnancy, circulatory or vascular disease, blood clots, phlebitis
or unexplained calf pain; infectious progressive diseases such as
AIDS; anti-coagulant medication (i.e., Coumadin®, warfarin);
active cancer, especially skin cancer.
Local contraindications for Endermologie include (work only
around the affected area): Hernias, varicose veins, eruptions, wounds,
infected areas, open sores; injection sites, skin tumors.
The above lists are NOT exhaustive. If in doubt, consult your physician
beforehand.
